Lately, I’ve been noticing more and more crypto projects throwing the word “AI” everywhere.

AI tokens. AI blockchains. Decentralized AI.

On paper, it all sounds futuristic.

In reality… it’s often hard to understand what’s actually behind it.

Sometimes it feels like just adding “AI” to the name is enough to attract attention (and capital).

A bit like what happened with the “metaverse” some time ago.

I’m not saying it’s all nonsense.

In fact, the combination of artificial intelligence and blockchain could make sense in the future.

But right now, it feels more like a narrative than a concrete reality.

Many promise “decentralized AI”, but very few actually explain how it really works.

The problem is that AI, to work properly, requires massive computational power and, above all, data.

And today, both of these are still highly centralized, in the hands of big tech.

It’s also worth saying that training models like ChatGPT in a truly decentralized way - and competing with giants like OpenAI or Google - is (and will remain) very difficult.

So in the short term: a lot of narrative and not much substance.

In the long run, though, something will likely emerge.

It probably won’t be 100% decentralized, but rather a compromise.

So maybe today we’re not looking at a real revolution…

but just another market trend.
