Even after huge support, Bangladesh could not.
Bangladesh men's volleyball team could not become the champion despite raising hopes in the Asian Central Zone Volleyball. Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh 3-0 in the final today at Mirpur Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor. Earlier, Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka in the round robin league as well. Sri Lanka won the tournament for the first time.
Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 28-26 points in the first set. Bangladesh lost the second set by 20-25 points. The margin of defeat in the third set was 25-20 points.
The scene has been known for the last few years at Mirpur Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoors. If there is an international tournament, there is a rush of visitors to the gallery. Even today, some spectators enter the procession, accompanied by bands of musicians and national flags. Red and green T-shirts are also distributed.
But even such support could not motivate the Bangladeshi players to win the title. Bangladesh is already far behind Sri Lanka in terms of fitness and technique. Bangladesh fought very well in the first set. Despite being ahead twice, in the end lost in a tight fight. At one point Bangladesh and Sri Lanka's points were equal 23-23. But Bangladesh couldn't get the set point even after advancing repeatedly from there. After repeatedly getting 'deuce', Sri Lanka advanced with points. When the points of both the teams were 25-25, Bangladesh suffered from nervous pressure and lost four points in a row.
Bangladesh put up a great fight in the second set as well. At one stage, Bangladesh, who fell behind by 5-9 points, equalized the set at 18-18 points. In the end, the second set was lost by 20-25 points. Even in the third set, Bangladesh was leading by 15-11 points. But even in this set, Bangladesh could not maintain the consistency of taking points. In the end they lost by 25-20 points.
Earlier, Bangladesh was the champion in 2016. Seber Bangladesh lost to Kyrgyzstan. Bangladesh was the runner-up in 2018. In that event, they lost to Turkmenistan. Uzbekistan finished third after defeating Nepal 3-0 in the men's qualifying match.
Nepal retained the crown in the women's category. In the final today, Nepal defeated Uzbekistan by 3-2 sets. The Nepalese girls won the five-set match with the difference of 26-24, 24-26, 25-15, 22-25, 15-10 points. Nepal won the first title of this competition in 2019. Apart from this, Sri Lanka finished third by defeating Kyrgyzstan 3-0 in the placement match. Sri Lanka won all three consecutive sets by 26-24, 25-16, 25-22 points.
